The International Iron Metallics Association (IIMA) was established by the HBI Association (HBIA) and the International Pig Iron Association (IPIA) to provide a unified voice for the ore-based metallics industry, which includes companies involved in or related to the production and sales of direct reduced iron (DRI), hot briquetted iron (HBI), pig iron, and iron nuggets; i.e., all metallic input materials for steelmaking and ironcasting derived from iron ore.

A guiding principle of the IIMA is to carry out any and all lawful activities in connection with or incidental to accomplishing the following purposes:

  • To promote the use of ore-based metallics as value-adding raw materials for the iron and steel and ferrous casting industries;
  • To represent the collective interests of Members in international industry, trade, and maritime forums;
  • To collect and provide statistical and other industry information, commercially sensitive or proprietary information always excluded;
  • To provide a forum for co-operation and exchange of ideas and information on scientific and technical matters related to the ore-based metallics industries.

Neither IIMA nor any Member may engage in any activity that contravenes anti-trust, cartel or restrictive trade practices legislation in the UK or in any other applicable country’s jurisdiction.

The IIMA is governed by a Board of Directors through an Executive Committee.
